Social media : a boon or bane
Social media is something that has been invented recently in the 2000 and has been a major part of our lives. It is something that helps us to connect to the whole entire world. From Facebook to twitter to instagram there are many social media apps. But they all serve the same purpose sharing stories and connecting to the world. But the question here is, is it a boon or it is a bane.
Social media has its many pros and cons. Let’s go over the pros first. It has helped many to share their stories and also helped many. Suppose a person suffers from a rare disease and feels left out. On social media, he/she can find many others with same disease and hence feel like he/she is not alone. It can also help raise awareness in many topics. It can be social or environmental awareness. Like the
recent California forest fires had become viral on social media platforms like twitter and instagram and many people had sent their prayers and wishes. Now the cons. Many people have gotten addicted to social media and can’t live a day without it. Which is harmful in many ways. Like the harmful rays going in the eyes for long periods of time can damage the eyes very much. Also many people get
catfished. They start talking to a person who they think are of same age but may be older. Many catfishers have turned out to be kidnappers and in the worst case murderers. Many people get hacked and all of their personal information and their bank account details is stolen. Social media is a big invasion of privacy. If not used wisely, people can exploit and innards personal space. Some people may even call social media a waste of time. But to many others their careers are based off of
social media. Like youtubers, beauty bloggers etc. Also to many social media is a cruel place. They think they can say whatever they want to say just because they get to hide behind the screen. Now the big debate is social media good or bad. It has been a blessing for some and curse for some. But the fact is that this debate cannot be won as the list of pros and cons is long and equal. If social media did not exist many people would have lost their jobs as there are also many people working on the invention and maintenance of these social media apps. And as many people can advertise their products, it would definitely a loss for many. But if social media was expanded people would definitely misuse the facilities given to them. Yes it is a place to make friends but for many it attracts the wrong type of people. Many celebrities get trolled for the slightest things which many times can
be annoying and hurtful. And so the list goes on. And the question remains is it a boon or bane?
The answer is there are endless reasons why it’s all the same. This debate will still be going on in a few years. The pros and cons are equal so to sum up my essay I would like to say that according to me this a pointless debate. Social media is a boon or a bane.
